Respect your friends from the social networks

A very important aspect of socializing is to respect your friends from the social networks. This is like an unwritten rule that you should know.

When I said that you should respect them I didn’t mean that you should treat them with “hello sir”. From time to time, take a look at your friend’s profile, especially at his favorites and if you like what you see, vote / comment!

The how many friends you have number is insignificant if you don’t have a good relationship with that friends. Don’t understand that I promote the votes exchange. No way, but I consider normal to check out your friend’s profile from time to time to see what are his new discoveries. If he will see that you are interested in his profile, then, he’ll check yours too.

It’s just like in real life ( I like to make comparisons between blogging and real life because is easier for you to understand what I mean ). If you have a very good friend but you won’t give him a call anymore to ask what’s new or something and if you don’t appear to be interested about him, that friend may get upset and you will have a surprise. Same thing here on the social networks.

Google and web 2.0 democracy

Warner Todd Huston blames Google for freezing the anti-Obama blogs that were made on the “Bloggbarack-obama.jpger” platform.

It’s official, Google decided to be for Barack Obama, so the guys from this company thought that their best contribution would be to close all the anti-Obama blogs that contain different rude posts, blogs that were made on the Google’s blogging platform called “Blogger“.

What do I think about this? To be sincere with you, I don’t really agree with the Google’s decision of taking down the anti-Obama blogs because we live in a free world and I am sure that there will always appear pros and cons, no matter what subject would be.

If you ask me, I would recommend Google to start a nice, friendly campaign on AdWords for Obama’s official site.

The ideal structure of the permalinks

A permalink is the link for a blog post. The default structure of the permalinks for the blogs that run on wordpress is the following: http://example.com/?p=n, where “n” is the number of the post.

I recommend you to change it because this is not relevant at all. The keywords in the structure of the links are very important because of two reasons:

  1. SERP
  2. User orientation

There are may discussions on the internet related to the ideal structure of the permalinks but nobody knows for sure what that is. Here are the two most common structures that I found on many top blogs:

To have your permalinks like this, all you need to do is to log in into the wordpress control panel, then go to options->permalinks-> and here choose “Date and name based”.

This is a very good structure but I don’t like it for one reason. For a better orientation, the category should appear too, but then, the links would be way too long.

This is the structure I use and I recommend it to you too. If you want your permalinks to be like this, log into the wordpress control panel, then go to options->permalinks-> and here choose “Custom, specify below” and in the “Custom structure” box write /%category%/%postname%/ .

Like I said before, maybe the ideal structure of the permalinks would be the one that has the date, category name and post name integrated in it but it would be way too long!

Careful with entrecard!

For the ones who don’t know what entrecard is, let me tell you. Entrecard is an innovative system, basically it is a banner exchange system, pretty efficient I can say.

As I came across entrecard’s blog today, I saw that they got really mad on the users that try to fool the system. So called “Power Drop” pages are not allowed anymore, and if you have a page like that you must delete it until the first of July, else, you will be banned.

A “Power Drop” page is usually a blank page that has installed on it only the entrecard widget. Here is an example:

You can read the official article on entrecard’s blog.
